HazAdapt and National Pediatric Disaster Coalition Partner to Bring Child Disaster Preparedness to Families

New partnership will help connect families, educators, safety leaders, and communities with trusted disaster preparedness resources for children.

CORVALLIS, Ore. — Sept. 25, 2026 — HazAdapt and the National Pediatric Disaster Coalition (NPDC) are proud to announce a new partnership focused on strengthening disaster preparedness for children, families, and the communities that support them across the United States.
‍

The partnership brings together HazAdapt's public-facing disaster preparedness technology and the National Pediatric Disaster Coalition's expertise and network in pediatric disaster preparedness.
‍

Through the partnership, HazAdapt will help connect people using the free HazAdapt Safety App with trusted pediatric disaster preparedness resources, organizations, and expertise. The National Pediatric Disaster Coalition will also be featured within HazAdapt as a Community Sponsor, helping people discover additional resources dedicated to protecting children before, during, and after disasters.
‍

"Our goal has always been to make preparedness easier to access and easier to act on," said Ginny Katz, MPH, Founder and CEO of HazAdapt. "Children and families have unique needs during disasters, and we are incredibly excited to work more closely with the National Pediatric Disaster Coalition to help families connect with trusted information and organizations that understand those needs."
‍

The partnership will also support outreach focused on families, classrooms, schools, caregivers, educators, emergency managers, public health professionals, and other community leaders who play an important role in children's safety.
‍

Preparedness for children often reaches far beyond the individual household. Children may experience disasters at home, at school, while traveling, during community activities, or while separated from their families. Helping communities prepare means giving adults and children practical tools they can understand and use wherever an emergency happens.
‍

HazAdapt provides step-by-step safety guidance for more than 60 disasters and emergencies, along with preparedness tools, emergency supply guidance, crisis contacts, and resources designed to support different needs within a community. The platform includes preparedness considerations for children, older adults, people with disabilities, pets, farm animals, and other populations that may require additional support during an emergency.
‍

The National Pediatric Disaster Coalition works to strengthen pediatric disaster preparedness by connecting professionals, organizations, resources, and expertise focused on the needs of children during emergencies and disasters.

“The National Pediatric Disaster Coalition (a 501c3 private foundation) is privileged to join HazAdapt as a cross-sector partner to address the needs of children in disaster,” said Patricia Frost, NPDC’s President and Executive Director. “No single organization can prepare communities for every disaster. By connecting HazAdapt’s technology with NPDC’s collaborative network of pediatric expertise and stakeholders, we can help make preparedness more accessible, actionable, and child-centered, before, during, and after disaster.”
‍

Together, HazAdapt and NPDC will explore new opportunities to share trusted preparedness resources, support public education, and help more families and communities take practical steps toward resilience.
‍

"Preparedness works best when communities build it together," Katz said. "Families, educators, healthcare professionals, emergency managers, and trusted community organizations all have a role. This partnership helps bring more of those pieces together."
‍

HazAdapt and the National Pediatric Disaster Coalition will continue sharing resources and partnership activities throughout the coming year, including family and youth preparedness outreach.
